The Camino de
Cruces National Park borders Soberania National Park to the north and the
Metropolitan Natural Park to the south, allowing for animals to move between
the protected areas. The park occupies 4,590 hectares, and much of the
terrain is undulating hillside covered in tropical rainforest.
Interesting Facts
The park is named for the famous Camino de Cruces road which the colonial
Spanish used to transport gold, silver and merchandise from South America
and Baja California to Panama City and on to the sea.
See and Do
Nature Hikes or Walks: Massive trees
such as the Panama tree, cotton tree, royal palms and wild plum trees grow
in the rainforests of the park, and many species of birds, mammals, and
reptiles can be seen.
Bird Watching: Birds such as the
crested eagle, cucilillo faisan, the red-and-green and the spotty-tailed
trogon can be seen in the park.
Walk the Camino de Cruces: Sections
of the old cobbled road have been restored for walking and nature hikes.
Practical Information
The park is 15 kilometers from Panama City and is highly accessible by
